Laughing is preferable to feeling fear
I read this bible verse about fear and grass. It made me wonder about God’s timing vs how long I think things should take. I also thought about what people say when they’re afraid to make a speech, for instance. “Imagine the audience in their underwear.” Well, at least, that makes me laugh.
Isaiah 51:12 (NLT)
“I, yes I, am the one who comforts you.
So why are you afraid of mere humans,
who wither like the grass and disappear?”
When you really are afraid, it helps to lean in to your faith and rely on your relationship with God. He is the Ultimate Cornerman. Always available. Has the right words at the right time…even if the words contradict what you think or what you want to do. Ready to comfort you when you are ready to be comforted.
I believe that life exists for us to work through and learn lessons.
Fear shows up when risk is present
In this verse, God compares people to grass. Crab grass needs nothing to grow and spread all over your own and your neighbor’s lawn.
Regular grass — the kind that people are proud to display in front of their homes — needs a lot of personal attention. Grass needs to be managed. Weeding, fertilizing, watering, sunshine, “keep your dog off my grass” signs and regular visits from the lawnmower.
My dad takes care of his lawn with great pride.
Crab Grass or Manicured Lawn?
In life, some people and situations feel “out of control”.
I believe situations like this are lessons in learning how to stay calm and unruffled.
Be ready for anything. Listen to your Cornerman!
Maybe all there is to do is wait for the person or situation to “wither and disappear”.
Other times, you’ll need to take action to protect yourself whilst you wait. Tick-Tock…
